History Of The 562 Group

Early History and Beginnings of 319 Happy Hour

 Originally started as the 319 Happy Hour, the initial opening date for 319 has been given as either 1950 or 1952. We have even heard estimates as early as 1947, but the general consensus seems to be 1952 as the beginning of this group, now known as the 562 Happy Hour. So, our history begins here.

InterGroup Representative (IGR) Updates

IGRs are an important conduit between 562 and SEPIA (Southeastern Pennsylvania Intergroup Association). They attend the Intergroup meeting once a month; coordinate outreach to jails, rehabs, hospitals and other institutions.  They will communicate updates to the 562 Officers and and notices to the Homegroup and webmaster.

Service Commitments

562 Group supports the regional Inter Group and solicits volunteers to ensure the A.A. message reaches people who may need it. Opportunities for going to Treatment Facilities, Correctional Facilities, etc and sharing your experience, strength and hope are a welcome part of your own sobriety journey. Many alcoholics first hear A.A.'s message of hope thanks to the work of the volunteers in these service meetings.

General Services Representative (GSR) Updates

GSRs are the very foundation of our general service structure and serve as the 562 liaison for the General Service Office (GSO), which serves as the hub of communication for AA groups.  The 562 GSR represents our interests at district and area assemblies and communicate all updates and notices to the 562 Officers and to the Homegroup members and webmaster.

562 Group Service Positions

General Chair: 2 year term.  Suggested 5 years of recovery

Lead the monthly business meetings, coordinate with all of the other service position chairs and manage/communicate issues and concerns about the group to the group to ensure group unity.

Vice Chair: 2 year term.  Suggested 5 years of recovery

Work with the General Chair to perform the duties of running the business meetings and working with the other service positions

Treasurer: 2 year term.  Suggested: 5 years of recovery.  

Oversee group financials, disburse funds.  Ability to balance a checkbook recommended.

Inter-Group Rep (IGR): 1 year term.  Suggested: 1 year of recovery.

Alternate IGR: 1 year term.  Suggested: 1 year of recovery. 

Attend the Intergroup meeting once a month.  Coordinate outreach to jails, rehabs, hospitals and other institutions.  Communicate updates and notices to the webmaster and group.

Alternate General Service Rep (GSR): 2 year term.  Suggested: 1 year of recovery

Literature Chair: 1 year term.  Maintain inventory of literature and coins.

Secretary: 1 year term.  

Attend and maintain the minutes of business meetings, produce flyers for events, maintain announcement binder.

Special Events Coordinator: 1 year term.  

Coordinate special events such as Alcathons, annual picnic, social gatherings, speakers, and clinics.

 Meeting Annual General Chairs: 1 year term.  

There are annual general chairs for both in-person and zoom meetings.  It is recommended that the Annual Chairs should be a regular attendee of their assigned meetings.  Annual Chairs are responsible for finding the monthly chairs for their meetings.  Annual chairs should also communicate to their meeting groups any pertinent information or topics for group discussions or group conscious voting.  Annual Chairs for in-person meetings are also responsible for opening up and locking up the clubhouse (or assigning someone to do so in their stead).
